Mercy Hospital St. Louis offers intensive outpatient programs (IOP) at our Edgewood Behavioral Health Center for adults and adolescents struggling with mental health, coping responses to life stressors, and co-occurring substance use issues. IOP can be an alternative to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization or a step down from inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. Most commercial insurance providers cover services with an average stay of four to five weeks.
Our IOP programs require patients with the following criteria:

Our IOP programs in St. Louis are intended to help those we serve better understand their illness, develop adaptive coping skills, and function at their best in their everyday lives. They are designed as an intensive level of care and require a commitment from patients of three days per week.
*Adolescent IOP services may include patients aged 18 who are still in high school
What is supposed to be a joyous time for new mothers can be affected by mood swings, sadness, and other upsetting symptoms. You don’t have to handle it alone. Mercy offers an intensive outpatient program for women with perinatal mood disorder and postpartum depression.
How it works:
This supportive environment allows mothers to talk to other mothers who face similar challenges. Families and partners will also learn new ways to support their loved ones; Mercy sees them as vital to this program.
Mothers will attend scheduled treatment groups and meet individually with a psychiatrist, therapist, and care team members. Together, they’ll set treatment goals and an aftercare plan. The program offers education on:
Mothers may bring their babies along; childcare assistance will be provided. However, the program doesn’t offer formal childcare. Mothers will need to provide basic baby care while they attend. Mothers should also find plans for older children during their visits.
Who is eligible?
The program is eligible for women 18 and older during pregnancy and up to one year after giving birth. Referrals may come from any doctor, but mothers may choose to self-refer. Placement into the program is decided on a case-by-case basis. For more information, please call 314.251.0555.
The IOP for adolescents at our Edgewood location is a recipient of the St. Louis County Children’s Service Fund (CSF). Since 2010, CSF has invested over $350 million to provide behavioral health & substance use treatment services. Eligible adolescents who are also St. Louis County residents may receive support through the CSF Core Funding Award.
Mercy’s East Region Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) has four program locations to be best able to serve our community: Edgewood, South, Washington, and Jefferson. Patients must call their scheduled location if unable to attend a scheduled appointment.
