President, Surgery and Gastroenterology
Michelle Fortune serves as president for the surgery and gastroenterology (GI) service line across Mercy. With extensive experience leading outpatient surgery centers, perioperative services and anesthesia at Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina, and National Surgical Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois, Fortune is well prepared to guide the surgery and GI teams and collaborate across services in Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.
Education and Credentials
Fortune earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, and from Western Governors University she earned a bachelor’s in nursing and a Master of Business Administration. She is a fellow of in the American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of the American Society of Peri-Anesthesia Nurses and American Operating Room Nurses Association and a certified ambulatory peri-anesthesia nurse.
