Mercy Radiation Oncology Services
Our center features a variety of the latest technologies used to treat cancer, including:
- Computed tomography (CT) scan – used for treatment planning and can be done right at our center without a trip to the hospital
- External beam radiation therapy (EBRT) – uses machines outside the body to aim high-energy x-rays at cancer tumors
- High-dose-rate brachytherapy (HDR) – places a radioactive substance directly on the skin to deliver powerful radiation in short bursts
- Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) – uses high-resolution x-rays to pinpoint tumors more accurately
- Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) – uses special software to vary the intensity of each radiation beam
- Internal radiation therapy (IRT) – places tiny implants inside the body to treat cancerous tumors
- Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) – delivers high-dose radiation to tumors that are hard to reach, prone to movement or next to vital organs
- Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) – uses high doses of very targeted radiation to destroy tumors in just one treatment session
