All burn survivors and family members 18 and older are welcome to attend. Follow us on Facebook at Ozark Burn Support for the latest updates.

Mercy Burn Center - Springfield Burn Therapy Services

Occupational and physical therapy play crucial roles in the burn recovery process. At the Mercy Burn Center - Springfield, therapists specializing in burn care work closely with nursing staff and providers daily to provide early mobilization, range of motion and splinting.

The goal of occupational therapists (OTs) is to help burn survivors to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) and functional transfers. OTs assist burn injury patients during their recovery with:

  • Activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Compression garments
  • Contracture prevention
  • Scar management
  • Splinting or casting
  • Stretching
  • Upper extremity range of motion (UE ROM)
  • Other treatments unique to each patient's needs

Physical Therapists (PTs) support burn injury patients through different recovery phases by focusing on:

  • Contracture prevention
  • Endurance
  • Mobility
  • Positioning
  • Range of motion exercises
  • Strength
  • Stretching
  • Other treatments unique to each patient's needs

Exercise and movement can help prevent serious medical conditions like scar contracture – a tightening of the skin. In addition, exercise and movement help avoid the onset of serious medical conditions such as blood clots, pneumonia and bone loss. Mercy's team of therapists will guide you through a personalized burn rehabilitation plan.
