Featured ER Services

Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)

Mercy ER doctors often need test results to decide whether to admit patients to the hospital or allow them to go home. When patients are waiting for these decisions to be made, we provide a dedicated treatment area called the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU).

The CDU is located directly above the ER, on the second floor of the Heart Hospital. Caregivers in the CDU provide the same level of advanced care as our ER staff. Patients stay in the CDU for a short time (usually less than 24 hours).

Mercy Kids ER

When your child has a serious illness or injury, you can count on the experts at Mercy Kids ER. We provide complete pediatric emergency care 24 hours a day, every day.

Mercy Kids ER is staffed by pediatric emergency medicine specialists, board-certified pediatricians, pediatric hospitalists and pediatric nurse practitioners—all focused on delivering child-centered care with compassion.

Child Life Services specialists are also available seven days a week to help kids feel less fearful and anxious. And if your child needs to be admitted to the hospital, Mercy Children’s Hospital St. Louis is on our campus.

Cardiac Critical Care Program

When a heart attack begins, getting treatment quickly helps reduce damage to the heart muscle. Our ER is located in Mercy Heart and Vascular Hospital, so we can provide immediate triage, transfer and treatment for heart attacks and other cardiovascular conditions.

Working closely with Mercy’s experienced team of cardiologists and other cardiovascular specialists, we help deliver cardiac care that saves lives.

Rapid Stroke Care

Minutes matter when it comes to stroke. Our highly specialized team of emergency physicians, neurologists, nurses and therapists provide immediate care for stroke and other neurological disorders.

The Stroke Center at Mercy Hospital St. Louis has earned Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center & Level I Stroke Center Certification from the Joint Commission, which accredits and certifies hospitals in the United States.
