I come from a family of nurses, including my mother and sister. We’re in different fields—my sister is in primary care and I’m in orthopedics—but we’re all inspired by wanting to help people. That’s been our drive. We love our community. I like total hip replacements the best. People with bad hips live with terrible, gnawing pain. But 24 hours after the surgery, most of them can't believe how much better they feel. It’s such a joy—patients come back to our office to see us even years later to tell us about their lives, show us pictures of their travels, etc. We give people their lives back. Many patients are scared, and they live with pain. I want to encourage them to overcome that fear. There are lots of options besides surgery. I want my life to matter and to help people in a tangible way. Getting people past pain and get their lives back is why I'm a nurse practitioner and why I do what I do.
