The Sisters of Mercy have offered nursing education in the Springfield, Missouri community since 1906. In 1986, Mercy partnered with Southwest Baptist University (SBU) to offer nursing degree programs at the Mercy Hospital Springfield/SBU campus. These programs may lead to an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree, which permits graduates to sit for a Registered Nurse (RN) licensure exam and complete their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — for nurses already licensed — and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees.
The SBU Mercy College of Health Professions also offers degrees in radiography. The School of Radiologic Technology, sponsored by Mercy Hospital Springfield, was founded in 1954 under the direction of Sister Mary Victoire Corcoran. Sister Victoire was the first registered radiologic technologist in Springfield. In 2013, Mercy and SBU began their partnership in radiography with an associate degree program.
Today, SBU Mercy's radiology technology students continue this forward-focused training, using the most advanced medical equipment to learn about the latest available techniques and radiology services.
