Members of Mercy Pastoral Services, Mercy Health Foundation and a large group of Mercy co-workers attended a special ceremony on April 11 to dedicate and bless a statue at Mount Hope Cemetery where, at the request of family, Mercy lays to rest babies younger than 20 weeks gestation. The area can serve as a tranquil space for grieving families to come to spend time in prayer or reflection.
“We pray this sacred place brings families healing, comfort, peace and hope – hope anchored in the firm foundation of our faith in eternal life with God and reuniting again with those we love,” said Sister Julie Brown, RSM.
The statue was made possible by donations made to the Mercy Health Foundation.
“We are humbled and blessed, as a Foundation, to provide for this beautiful granite statue,” said Kim Kory, Mercy Health Foundation Joplin executive director. “It’s through the generosity of our donors contributing to the Chapel Fund that we could share this loving depiction of Jesus holding the little children.”
