On Dec. 6, Father Cardy blessed the renovated Mercy Kids ER and blessed the hands of the co-workers who will be treating young patients in need of care. The Mercy Kids ER opened on Oct. 1, but it has been undergoing renovations over the last couple of months. The renovations include décor and activities designed to keep children as distracted and occupied as possible, which can lower their stress levels along with the stress levels of their parents.

In addition to pediatricians and pediatric-trained nurses, the Mercy Kids team includes Child Life Specialists who help kids overcome their fear, reduce their anxiety and better understand their treatment. The Mercy Kids ER also features respiratory therapists for patients with breathing issues, specialized equipment designed for children, its own waiting and triage space, six treatment rooms and imaging services.
