Mercy Hospital NWA Earns Top Hospital Award

December 8, 2020

The Leapfrog Group has released its annual list of top hospitals in the nation, and Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas in Rogers has been recognized among the best small teaching hospitals in patient care.

The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards American hospitals can receive. A national watchdog organization of employers, The Leapfrog Group sets some of the toughest standards of health care safety and quality. More than 2,200 hospitals were considered for the award and only 105 about 5 percent were selected.

“It’s particularly gratifying to receive news of this recognition while our co-workers are facing the extraordinary challenges of a global pandemic and rising to the occasion and beyond,” said Eric Pianalto, president of Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas. “This award reflects the sacrifices and dedication of all Mercy co-workers, from our physicians to our environmental services team. I’m so proud of their tireless work in serving our community with the best in patient care.”

Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas has consistently earned an ‘A’ grade in The Leapfrog Group’s twice-annual ratings of hospital quality and safety. This is its first time on the list of top hospitals.

Hospitals are awarded based on the quality of care they provide for their patients. The methodology includes analysis of infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care and the hospital’s record of preventing medication errors. Hospitals must rank highest among their peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey to earn the recognition.

“Being recognized as a Top Hospital is an extraordinary feat and we are honored to recognize three Mercy hospitals this year,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Despite the extraordinary pressure and strain of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mercy Hospital Ada, Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas and Mercy Hospital St. Louis have demonstrated an unwavering dedication to patients in the communities they serve. We congratulate the board, staff and clinicians whose efforts made this honor possible.”

Mercy Hospital Ada was among the top rural hospitals, and Mercy Hospital St. Louis was among the top large teaching hospitals recognized by The Leapfrog Group.
