What do you love about seeing patients in Ada? Being able to provide care close to their home.

Why did you choose health care? I see health care is a wonderful marriage of science, intellectual stimulation and being able to care for people. I was drawn to cardiology for several reasons. Patient symptoms and signs often reflect pathophysiology of the disease process and there are so many treatment options to relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, and often extend life. I find all this rewarding.

How would you describe your health care philosophy? Often when you're the patient, things can seem out of your control. In cardiology there are many things the patient can do to improve outcomes and I like to try to emphasize that - healthy diet, regular exercise, stress reduction, and maintaining a healthy weight.

What kind of hobbies do you love? I enjoy music. I played the flute for many years. I had a wonderful music director at grammar school who provided many opportunities; small groups such as duets, trios, quartets to band and orchestra. He organized two school orchestra tours in Germany. It was so much fun. A few years ago, I took piano lessons with my girls' piano teacher. I even participated in recitals which was nerve wracking! During the pandemic, I began knitting hats for the children of friends. I found it a great stress reliever because you can see your progress even if you only have the odd 10-15 minutes to knit and there are lots of fun patterns.

Tell us about your family: My husband and I recently celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. We have two daughters: Cait, a sophomore at Fordham University in New York City and Caoimhe, a sophomore at Ada High school.
