Southeast Hospital, now known as Mercy Southeast has received the American Heart Association’s 2023 Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for its commitment to improving outcomes for patients with heart failure. For patients, that means reduced readmissions to the hospital and more healthy days at home.
About 6.2 million adults in the U.S. are living with heart failure. Portions of southeast Missouri have significant concentrations of heart failure which often result in frequent hospitalizations and other complications. While there is no cure for heart failure, people can live a quality life by working with their healthcare professionals to create a plan for healthy living. Among recommended lifestyle changes is maintaining a healthy weight. Through the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation Ambassadors’ Heart Strong program, heart failure patients who need a scale to monitor weight have one provided free of charge.
The Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure award us earned by hospitals that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to treating patients according to the most current guidelines outlined by the American Heart Association.
“Providing the best, evidence-based care to all heart patients is paramount to our entire cardiac and vascular team,” said SoutheastHEALTH President and CEO Ken Bateman. “We are fortunate to have an exceptional team of physicians, nurses and support staff who embrace opportunities to continually advance care of the hundreds of heart failure patients we treat every year.”
Bateman also noted that Southeast Hospital was recently ranked number one in Missouri for its work on decreasing heart failure readmissions. That ranking came from the Hospital Industry Data Institute’s (HIDI) data collection, analytics and reporting.
“We are pleased to recognize Southeast Hospital for its commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said John Warner, MD, FAHA, past president of the American Heart Association and CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. “They put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis, which helps ensure more people in their region experience longer, healthier lives.”
