Mercy Ada Welcomes Two New Leaders

June 13, 2024

ADA, Okla. Mercy Hospital Ada recently named the Rev. Kaycee Young as the new vice president of mission and Shazaib Cheema as new executive director for clinical operations.

“We are excited to welcome Reverend Young and Shazaib to our team,” said Terence Farrell, president of Mercy Hospital Ada. “Both come from a Mercy background that will help them smoothly integrate into our leadership structure, and both brings skills I am confident will improve care and drive innovation at our facilities.”

For the last eight years, Rev. Young worked with Mercy in Fort Smith, Arkansas, as a chaplain, assisting with patient and spiritual care. She previously worked as a chaplain for multiple other health centers in Oklahoma and served as executive director of The Wesley at NSU in Tahlequah.

“At Mercy, our mission and values drive and inform the care we provide, and I think that’s an important part of what sets Mercy apart from other health systems,” said Rev. Young. “My background in chaplaincy has shown me how to combine the care and compassion of caring for the community with the organizational dynamics of leadership to make a real difference.”

Young has a master’s degree in divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a master’s degree in bioethics and health policy from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.

With a background in care, Cheema also joins Ada’s team. He received bachelor’s degrees in medicine and surgery from Jinggangshan University in Jiangxi, China, before moving to the United States and working in research for several years.

“I started my career caring for patients but soon discovered a passion for ensuring patients have a smooth and supportive journey through health care,” said Cheema. “I’ve seen firsthand how compassion can impact families and how collaboration with every member of the team plays a vital role in delivering exceptional care. I look forward to applying those principles to my work with the operations team to make a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.”

Cheema most recently worked as manager of business operations and gastrointestinal clinics at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City.

Rev. Young and Cheema both recently relocated to Ada for their new roles, which started on June 10.
