Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas Earns 5-Star CMS Rating

August 1, 2024

Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas reclaimed its prestigious 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), making it one of only two hospitals in the state to earn this top rating. This achievement underscores Mercy NWA’s commitment to providing top-tier patient care and makes it the only hospital in Arkansas to hold both a 5-star CMS rating and an A grade from The Leapfrog Group.

The CMS ratings, based on over 100 measures, evaluate hospitals in five key areas: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timeliness and effectiveness of care. These comprehensive assessments provide a crucial indicator of the hospital’s excellence and commitment to quality.

“This 5-star rating is a testament to the steadfast commitment of our entire team to deliver the highest quality care and exceptional service to those entrusted in our care,” said Ryan Gehrig, president of Mercy Arkansas. “Achieving both a top rating from CMS and a 10th consecutive A grade from Leapfrog highlights our team’s dedication to excellence, providing patients with the confidence and trust they need when choosing their health care provider.”

The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization, awarded Mercy NWA its 10th consecutive A grade for patient safety in spring 2024, recognizing the hospital’s ongoing efforts to protect patients from harm and error. Mercy NWA is also distinguished as a “Straight-A” hospital by Leapfrog, the only one in Northwest Arkansas, highlighting its consistent high performance.

“Our team’s commitment to patient safety and quality care is unwavering,” said Dr. Sonal Bhakta, chief medical officer at Mercy NWA. “Being recognized with the highest possible ratings from CMS and The Leapfrog Group validates our efforts and motivates us to continue striving for excellence. These achievements are important milestones for our team to reflect on our ongoing mission to provide the best care for our community.”

Mercy NWA’s dual recognition from CMS and The Leapfrog Group sets it apart as the premier hospital in Arkansas, reaffirming its role as a leader in patient care and safety. The hospital’s ongoing commitment to excellence ensures that patients receive the highest standard of care, reflecting Mercy’s mission to deliver compassionate and comprehensive health care.
