Mercy Southeast Strengthens Sports Medicine Team

September 5, 2024

A new physician is joining Mercy Southeast’s already outstanding sports medicine team. Her experience as a high-level athlete who still loves to compete gives her a special understanding of her patients’ needs.

Michelle Tedrowe, DO, is now seeing patients at Mercy Clinic Orthopedics and Sports Medicine – 650 S Mount Auburn in Cape Girardeau.

Dr. Tedrowe discovered her passion for sports medicine through her love of athletics. As a walk-on for the University of Arkansas track team, she suffered a devastating knee injury that medically disqualified her from competition. That experience shaped her into the sports medicine physician she is today – one who is able to relate to patients on another level.

"My goal is to keep all ages moving, whether that be through organized sports or after-dinner evening walks, and assist them in recovering from injuries,” Dr. Tedrowe said. “I’m looking forward to becoming a part of this community and becoming active with them.”

Dr. Tedrowe was drawn to Mercy Southeast and Cape Girardeau because of its proximity to Southeast Missouri State University and the opportunity to continue working with college athletes.

“I’m looking forward to joining a supportive group of physicians and practitioners while serving this community and moving a little closer to family and friends,” she said.

Dr. Tedrowe enjoys spending personal time with her fiancé, Benjamin, doing a variety of outdoor activities. Cycling and hiking are their biggest hobbies, but they recently started competing in triathlons. When the weather turns to winter, she enjoys reading, trying her hand at knitting hats and mittens, and whipping up new recipes.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Tedrowe earned a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from the University of Arkansas and graduated medical school at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University. Dr. Tedrowe then completed a family medicine residency at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. Most recently, she finished her sports medicine fellowship at Cone Health in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is board certified in both family medicine and sports medicine.
