October 21, 2024

ARDMORE, Okla. – Nobody works harder than Mercy Hospital Ardmore to increase registrations for organ, eye and tissue donation in Oklahoma, and the effort has gained national attention two years in a row.

LifeShare of Oklahoma, which is responsible for the state’s organ and tissue donation program, announced that Mercy Hospital Ardmore has again earned platinum-level recognition for the federal Health Resources and Services Administration’s DoNation Campaign.

“When it takes a donation to save your life or the life of someone you care about, it doesn’t happen without someone who registered to be a donor first,” said Corinne Hunter, Mercy’s quality management director and a registered nurse. “That’s why organ donation is not only critically important for the community, but also as your personal responsibility. More people registering means more lives saved – maybe yours or a loved one's.”

DoNation Campaign

The national DoNation Campaign challenges hospitals and health care organizations to educate their staff, patients, visitors and communities about the critical need for organ, eye and tissue donation, and to register organ donors. Fifty-five Oklahoma hospitals participated.

Mercy Hospital Ardmore earned the platinum recognition for prompting new donor registrations with awareness and registry activities between October 2023 and April 2024. It was the hospital’s second straight year at the platinum level.

The annual hospital campaign added 9,134 donor registrations statewide. The campaign and hospital donation advocates have generated more than 639,000 donor registrations since 2011.
