December 23, 2024

U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice, named Mercy Hospital Southeast as a 2025 High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care (uncomplicated pregnancy). This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

“I’m incredibly proud of our entire women’s and children’s team for being recognized as a top performing maternity hospital,” said Britton May, Mercy Southeast manager of nursing services – obstetrics. “This designation speaks to the excellent maternity care our moms receive. I’m constantly impressed with our caregivers’ skills and their dedication to our moms and babies. It truly is a team effort, and I’m proud to be part of this amazing group.”

Best Hospitals for Maternity Care is an annual evaluation designed to assist expectant parents, in consultation with their pre-natal care team, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care that best meets their family’s needs. 2025 marks the third year Mercy Southeast has earned this award.

Mercy Southeast’s high-performance designation is measured by factors such as minimizing avoidable C-sections, low newborn complication rates and percentage of babies exclusively breastfed during their hospital stay.

“We came together to rededicate ourselves and focus on maintaining a low C-section rate and increasing our breastfeeding support,” said Dr. Jennifer Lovegreen, Mercy Southeast’s department chair of obstetrics and gynecology. “Everyone brings their unique talents to the table to ensure our patients receive the highest quality care.”

Since opening in 1928, Mercy Hospital Southeast has offered uninterrupted obstetrics services, welcoming tens of thousands of babies into the world. Mercy Southeast is on track to deliver about 700 babies in 2024.

For the Best Maternity designation, U.S. News evaluated hospitals from across the nation, with only 414 participating hospitals that offer maternity care receiving a high performing designation.
