When expecting a new baby, you have a lot of decisions to make, but few are as important as choosing your birthing center. From the moment you walk in our door at Mercy Birthplace - Pittsburg, we'll do everything we can to make you feel right at home.
Our bedside nurses are beloved in the community because they spend time getting to know you. They also work together as one team. That means your postpartum nurse might be the same nurse who helps deliver your baby. Also, the doctor you see throughout your pregnancy is typically the same doctor who will handle your delivery. All of this means better care for you when you need it most.

Mercy Birthplace has been a staple in the Pittsburg community for decades. With more than 250 years of combined labor and delivery experience, our nursing team has seen it all.
We understand that every birth experience is unique, and we're committed to providing care that meets your specific needs. From birth plans to pain management options to breastfeeding support, we offer every service to support your birthing experience. Our offerings include:
- Individual birth plans – we help you create the birth experience you want, whether it's for a natural birth, cesarean section or vaginal birth after cesarian (VBAC)
- Private rooms – our birthing suites allow you all the space you need for comfortable labor, delivery and recovery
- Postpartum rooms – once you deliver your baby, you'll move to a quieter, more relaxing room in a separate wing to rest and bond with your new baby and family
- Specialty care nursery – for newborns needing some extra attention, our specialty care nursery is close by; and if more care is needed, we'll work quickly to get you and your family to nearby Mercy Hospital Joplin
- Advanced fetal monitoring – our latest fetal monitoring system will help you find peace of mind knowing your baby is safe
- High 5 for Mom & Baby – this program encourages successful breastfeeding practices while reducing racial and ethnic disparities
- Breastfeeding support – our International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) will help you and your baby breastfeed successfully, even offering follow-up visits after your return home
- Social services – our offerings include support for new parents, mothers with postpartum depression and low-income families
- Postpartum care – our follow-up services include help with recovery, emotional support and tips on new parenting
- Stork menu – to celebrate this life milestone, new parents will be treated to a special dinner served with faux candles and sparkling juice
- Hugs® Infant Protection – the Hugs® security system uses a baby-friendly ankle tag to keep your little one safe and provide peace of mind to new moms
- Sleep chairs – each birth room is equipped with a fully reclining sleep chair with a footrest feature
