We provide family-centered care that caters to the needs of mothers and babies equally. Each family will have their own personalized birth experience with private labor, delivery and recovery rooms. This approach allows for more family bonding and creates a safe space for new parents to learn and practice new skills.

Labor and Delivery Suites
Mercy Birthplace - Springfield offers spacious suites for both labor and postpartum recovery with many exciting features, including:
- Modern positioning beds that support labor progression and comfort, even if you've received an epidural
- Birth balls, peanut balls and balance bars to enhance your labor progress
- Convertible sofa bed, pillows and bedding for birth partners
- Free Wi-Fi and plenty of workspace for birth partners
- Flat-screen TVs compatible with most electronic devices
- Nearby waiting areas, designed with families in mind
After delivery, you and your baby will stay in the same room for the rest of your time at our hospital. Friends, family and loved ones are welcome to visit.

Congratulations! We’re honored to share this important time with you. Our childbirth classes in Springfield are here to give you the knowledge and confidence you need before, during and after your baby’s birth.
Our family-centered birthplace tour will give you a sneak peek at our hospital and birthing suites before your expected due date. You'll have the opportunity to ask staff any questions ahead of time. Knowing what to expect before your big day will help you feel more comfortable when it's time to deliver your baby.

Resources
Mercy's Family Resource Center provides resources, education and support to keep families healthy and happy. Whether you're planning on delivering a baby at Mercy or have other needs for your growing young family, we're here to help.
Today, many women want low-intervention childbirth experiences with midwives. That's why we offer the Mercy Midwifery Service, Springfield's first in-hospital, low-risk birthing service managed by certified nurse midwives (CNMs).
Our low-intervention rooms are on the fifth floor, just around the corner from our labor and delivery rooms. Two low-risk birthing suites are decorated to look more like bedrooms at home than a typical hospital room. Each suite has a queen-size bed, shower and oversized tub to help you relax during labor.
Our CNMs are also trained to assist with:
- Epidurals
- High-risk patients under the care of an OB/GYN
- Vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC)
Located in the Smith Glynn Callaway building, Mercy Clinic Midwifery provides prenatal, well-woman, well-baby, lactation and postpartum care. We also have a physician on staff and an OB/GYN hospitalist on call.
During your stay, one of our certified lactation consultants will stop by to help you and your little one begin breastfeeding. She'll help you practice how to comfortably hold your baby for feedings and how to properly use a breast pump.
Our lactation consultants have been widely recognized for their excellence. Our team is certified with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
Your consultant can answer any of your questions or concerns, even after you go home. You're always welcome to call us or set up a return visit if you have ongoing breastfeeding concerns. For more information, please reach out to the Family Resource Center at 417-820-2327.
Many births occur without complications. But for those births that require extra care and attention, parents will find comfort in knowing that our highly skilled staff and birth experts are just steps away. Our Level III NICU offers the region’s most advanced care for premature or critically ill babies.
Our registered lactation consultants offer prenatal visits to set you up for breastfeeding success. All breastfeeding visits happen in the comfort of a private room. International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants are available by appointment only. Your visit will cover:
- Breast and nipple exam
- Breast pump and accessories education
- Custom flange fitting
- Hand expression and Haakaa education
- Proper bra fitting by a certified expert
- Review of breastfeeding techniques and positioning
- Questions about breast surgery

During this postnatal consultation, our registered lactation consultants offer advice on breastfeeding techniques, breast pumps, supplies and more. All breastfeeding visits happen in the comfort of a private room. International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants are available by appointment only. Your visit will cover:
- Baby weight checks
- Common breastfeeding problems, such as low supply, low weight gain or sore nipples
- Custom flange and breast shield fittings
- More education on tubing and parts
- Proper bra fitting by a certified expert
- Return-to-work breastfeeding concerns
