Midwife-Centered Childbirth

Considering a low-intervention birth? Oklahoma’s first hospital-based midwifery birthing program is open at Love Family Women’s Center.

Is Midwifery Care Right for You?

Midwifery care at Mercy offers the best of both worlds: the empowering experience of low-intervention birth with hospital resources close by. Our certified nurse midwives respect birth as a natural process. If you have a low-risk pregnancy, they can help you deliver your baby with fewer medical interventions and medications. You’ll use your body’s natural cues to usher your baby into the world. If you and your baby are healthy after delivery, you can often go home with your family the same day.

Low-Risk Birth Eligibility Guidelines

  • You’re carrying a single baby whose head is positioned down.
  • You don’t have chronic or complex medical conditions.
  • Your pre-pregnancy BMI is below 40. To measure your BMI, use this calculator for women.
  • Your prenatal test results don’t indicate a need for fetal monitoring.
  • You receive prenatal care from Mercy Clinic Midwifery – Love Family Women’s Center.
  • Your age and your baby’s size don’t usually affect your eligibility.

Highly Trained Childbirth Experts

Mercy’s certified nurse midwives hold advanced degrees, are certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) and have extensive labor and delivery experience. Like obstetricians, their care includes prenatal, childbirth, postpartum and newborn health services. If unexpected issues arise, they work closely with Mercy obstetricians and neonatologists.

Deliver in a Home-Like Setting

Our Birthing Center at Love Family Women’s Center has four newly built suites. Each suite features warm, soothing décor, a double-size bed, a shower and a large tub for labor. The Birthing Center also has family spaces and other childbirth amenities.
