Sports medicine is a specialty that focuses on providing comprehensive and quality care for the active individual. Sports medicine involves the pre-participation physicals, treatment and the prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise. Mercy Sports Medicine is a collaboration among multiple physician providers including our orthopedic surgeons, primary care physicians, athletic trainers and therapists all working to maximize active living.

Our specialists at Mercy Clinic Sports Medicine - Rogers are ideal physicians for the nonathlete as well and are excellent resources for the “weekend warrior” who experiences an injury. The same expertise used for the competitive athlete can be applied to return the individual as quickly as possible to full function.

Some specific types of conditions treated include:

  • Acute injuries - ankle sprains, muscle strains, knee & shoulder injuries, and fractures
  • Overuse injuries - rotator cuff, tendonitis, stress fractures
  • Medical and injection therapies for osteoarthritis or acute inflammation
  • Care of sports-related medical needs of athletes or those wanting to maintain an active lifestyle
  • Coordinating care with other members of the sports medicine team including athletic trainers, physical therapists, personal physicians, other medical and surgical specialties, and other ancillary personnel of specialty care and rehabilitation
  • Education and counseling on illness & injury prevention
  • Concussion (mild traumatic brain injury) and other head injuries
  • Athletes with chronic or acute illness (such as infectious mononucleosis, asthma or diabetes)
  • “Return to play or activity” decisions for the sick or injured athlete
  • Recommendations on safe strength training and conditioning exercises
