The Emergency Department at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith is a Level III trauma center. While many hospital emergency rooms treat only minor injuries such as cuts and breaks, trauma centers are capable of providing a higher level of care. As a Level III trauma center, Mercy Hospital Fort Smith gives you 24-hour access to an in-house emergency physician, trauma surgeon, and anesthesiologist, in addition to intensive care services and orthopedic surgeons. A pastoral care staff provides emotional support to trauma victims and their families.

Mercy Hospital Fort Smith is also active in trauma prevention. Community outreach classes on subjects like fall prevention for the elderly and distracted driving for teens are offered in an effort to help keep people out of the emergency room.
