Mercy Joplin’s ER is available 24/7 with board-certified emergency medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and other clinicians trained to provide lifesaving care. As a certified Level II trauma center, the Emergency Department at Mercy Hospital Joplin is prepared to care for patients suffering a heart attack, stroke or physical trauma.

Fast-Tracked Emergency Heart Care
Mercy’s emergency and hospital physicians in Joplin work quickly to identify and treat active heart emergencies. Emergency care is seamlessly integrated with on-site cardiologists and other cardiovascular specialists.
SANE Program
Mercy Hospital Joplin offers comprehensive, round-the-clock care and counseling for victims of sexual assault. Through a program called SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner), specially trained providers deliver prompt medical exams, compassionate emotional support and what-to-do-next counseling. If you are unsure about what to do, please call 417-556-2300 to speak with a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, available 24 hours a day.
For both female and male victims, our SANE Program offers:
- 24-hour access to free forensic sexual assault exams and evidence collection
- Victim anonymity
- Coordinated efforts with local law enforcement and judicial system to provide justice for survivors of sexual related crimes
- In-house social workers to help coordinate safe shelter
- Complete medical screenings available upon request
- Assistance with treatment plans for children
- Sexually transmitted disease (STD) treatment and family planning counseling upon request
- 24-hour access to a sexual assault advocate to support you through the process

Sexual Assault Care
To receive SANE services, it’s best to visit our Emergency Department as soon as possible after the assault, but at least within five days. Try not to drink, chew gum, eat, change clothes or shower. However, if you did these things, that’s okay. You should still come to the hospital.
