Spiritual Care at Mercy Hospital Springfield

Mercy is committed to caring for your spiritual, emotional and physical health. Our integrated approach to healthcare reflects the rich legacy of the Sisters of Mercy, since 1831, and our founder Catherine McAuley.  Mercy eagerly embraces and welcomes people from diverse spiritual and cultural backgrounds.

Mercy chaplains are trained spiritual care professionals and integral members of the healthcare team. Everywhere and every place we serve we want to meet you… face to face, electronically, in a clinic, hospital or doctor’s office and we will provide a place of safety and hope for you to explore your spiritual needs.

Whether you receive a new diagnosis or difficult prognosis, face a hospital stay or surgery, grieve losses or, experience family or personal needs, we are here to assist you.

Having an Advance Directive is important to everyone, young and old, since accidents and illness can strike at any age.  Advance Directives allow you to plan ahead in the event you are injured and/or become very sick.  The documents can state what medical treatments you would want and enable you to appoint another person you trust to make decisions for you if you are unable to speak for yourself. Chaplains are available to assist you with any ethical or moral questions you may have related to Advance Directives and Advance Care Planning, they can also direct you to resources related to Advance Directives.
