Inpatient Rehabilitation Setting

Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital offers inpatient rehabilitation. As a patient, you stay overnight and are served by a team of dedicated rehabilitation physicians, nurses and therapists who specialize in treating your unique condition.

Inpatient rehabilitation is different from acute hospital care. Rehabilitation patients are more medically stable and receive at least three hours of therapy each day, at least five days a week. Depending on their condition, some patients may receive fewer hours of therapy to accommodate specific needs.

The focus of inpatient rehabilitation is wellness and achieving maximum functional independence to help you return home as quickly and safely as possible.

Hours of Services

At Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital, medical services are provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Chaplain, nutritional, case management and psychology services are available throughout your stay.

Physical, occupational and speech therapy services are available seven days a week between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Speech-language pathology services are available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Saturday, and on Sunday, as needed.

Frequency of Services

The frequency of any and all of the services listed above is dependent upon your specific needs. At a minimum, you’ll see your attending physician three days a week. You’ll see your physical, occupational, and/or speech therapists six days a week. Of course, you’ll see your nurses every day.

Other services are provided as needed, or as specified by your attending physician.

Referral Sources

Patients admitted to Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital are referred by physicians throughout southwest Missouri and across the Midwest. We accept patients referred from acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, long-term acute care hospitals, surgery centers, physicians’ offices and sub-acute care facilities, as well as patients currently residing at home or coming straight from the emergency room.

Intensity of Services

Patients at Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital participate in at least three hours of therapy a day, five days a week.  On average, you’ll participate in three to four hours of therapy each day, Monday through Friday, and shorter sessions on weekends.

If you’re unable to participate in this level of therapy due to medical complications, you may be referred to a more appropriate level of care. This determination is not made immediately, but after a period of time, as often a patient can recover in one to two days and begin full participation.

Depending on their condition, some patients may receive fewer hours of therapy to accommodate specific needs.
