Hospital Volunteer Programs in Rogers, AR

Our goal at Mercy is to provide an excellent patient experience; one that reaches beyond the patient, to their families and visitors alike. With more than 250 volunteers currently serving, every Mercy Volunteer plays a critical role in living our mission to provide compassionate care and exceptional service. Mercy’s Auxiliary has been a vital part of the hospital for over 50 years and we thank you for your desire to give back to our Northwest Arkansas community by volunteering at Mercy.

There are numerous volunteer positions in our Northwest Arkansas facilities for adults, teens and RNs, which include the main hospital and several of our clinics in Rogers. Volunteers assist by providing support at our information desks, gift shops, patient escort services, surgery waiting, clinical settings, and other various departments.

Hospital Volunteer Requirements

We feel it is important to place our volunteers in areas of need and will try to place you in an area that truly touches your heart. However, please keep in mind the following requirements for hospital volunteers:

  • Volunteers commit to a minimum of one 4-hour shift per week
  • Volunteers are required to interview and attend orientation before beginning service.
  • Volunteers are required to attend yearly training and to maintain health requirements.

Volunteer nurses at Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas help deliver compassionate and courteous care to patients throughout the hospital. Our Northwest Arkansas nurse volunteers take on many different roles in caring for patients. Regardless of specific duties, volunteer nurses are given the freedom to devote extended amounts of time to one patient, if needed. This flexibility allows them to deliver one-on-one direct patient care — the reason many individuals originally joined the nursing profession.

Volunteer nurses have the opportunity to serve in a wide variety of specialties including:

  • Medical/Surgical
  • Emergency Department
  • Orthopedics
  • Nursery
  • Palliative Care
  • Women's Health
  • One Day Surgery
  • ICU

Nurse Volunteer Requirements

  • Every volunteer nurse must have an active license from the state of Arkansas Boards of Nursing. If a license is in an inactive state, we can help with the reactivation process.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills in order to promote and maintain a positive relationship within the hospital community and the people served.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience actively participating in the practice of nursing.

Nurse Volunteer Training

Each nurse volunteer in Northwest Arkansas attends a two-day orientation and competency class. The class serves as a refresher and is offered at no cost.

Mercy is honored to offer teens an opportunity to experience six weeks of summer service in our hospital and clinics in Northwest Arkansas.

  • Applicants must be 15 – 18 years old to apply
  • Applications will be accepted from March 21 to May 8
  • After applications are reviewed, a letter will be mailed out to applicants by May 16 regarding acceptance to the program

Returning teens will be accepted into our summer program, but must send in a new application with a parent/guardian signature. Reference letters are not required for returning volunteens.

VolunTeen Requirements

For your personal planning, the requirements for volunteens are as follows:

  • Volunteens will be required to attend one 3-hour orientation, which will be offered on June 9 or June 14. All new volunteens must attend one of these two offered sessions in order to participate in the program.
  • In order to apply, each student must commit to volunteering four hours per week from June 13 to July 22. Please do not apply if you will be absent or unable to serve for more than one week during that period.
  • Volunteens will be required to provide current proof of TB screening that can be obtained through their personal care provider. If they choose, they can attend our free TB skin test clinic and they will be required to return in 48-72 hours to have the test read.

*Please note that there are a limited number of volunteer positions available for our summer program.

**If you are 18 or older and would like to participate in our summer program, please complete an adult application and indicate on the application that you are interested in summer service only.
