Over 6.5 million Americans suffer from chronic wounds. Chronic wounds are often visible and are considered serious if they do not respond to treatment after thirty days of conventional medical care. With an aging population, diabetes and obesity epidemics, and the increasing incidence of chronic disease, the number of people suffering from hard-to-heal wounds is staggering.
The incidence of chronic wounds is highest among diabetics, which often results in amputation if not treated with the latest healing techniques. Chronic wounds can also result from prolonged pressure on the skin, venous and arterial disease, and non-healing surgical and radiation damage.
Mercy Wound & Hyperbaric -Springfield is an outpatient, hospital-based program that works along with the patient’s primary care physician. The complexity of chronic wounds requires intervention by multiple health-care disciplines to address the many conditions and positively impact healing.
We provide treatment for a wide range of conditions, including:
Diabetic foot ulcers
Arterial insufficiency (decreased blood flow or lack of blood flow through your arteries) and venous stasis (loss of proper function of the veins in the legs)wounds
Radiation therapy wounds
Pressure ulcers
Non-healing surgical or complicated wounds
