Dermal Fillers vs. Botox

Cosmetic surgery specialists use both Botox and dermal fillers to help patients achieve facial rejuvenation without surgery. While Botox and dermal fillers are both given through injections, Botox is used to freeze facial muscles and smooth fine lines; dermal fillers add fullness to areas of the face that have thinned over time.

Non-surgical dermal fillers can be used to:

  • Make thin lips look plumper
  • Enhance shallow contours
  • Soften wrinkles
  • Smooth the appearance of scars
  • Fill in shadows under the lower eyelids

The entire dermal filler procedure can last from 15 minutes to one hour, depending on how many areas you’re having treated. You may have mild discomfort, but it’s usually gone within a few days.

Are Dermal Fillers Right for You?

If you’re physically healthy, don’t smoke and are committed to good skin care practices, injectable dermal fillers may be a good option.

You’ll be able to see the effects of dermal fillers immediately, and for as long as several months to several years. Your results will depend on the type of filler used, your health and your skin care practices.
