Most people will experience behavioral and mental health issues – such as depression, anxiety or grief – at some point in their lives. There shouldn’t be any stigma in asking for help. If you, or someone you know, could benefit from mental or behavioral health care, Mercy can help.
At Mercy, we put emphasis on preserving the patient’s dignity as they overcome their challenges and restore a healthy emotional balance. All services are provided with compassion and respect. A full care team of behavioral health specialists provides education, counseling and treatment for adults, seniors, adolescents and children.
Treatment begins with a series of evaluations designed to diagnose the condition, familiarize the therapist with the patient and their unique needs, and allow the therapist to create an individualized treatment plan. Evaluations may include tests to determine cognitive functioning, stress levels, the ability to adapt to new circumstances, screenings for depression and anxiety, and others.
Many behavioral health patients face challenges caused by events or circumstances. These may be life upheavals such as divorce, job loss, grief caused by the loss of a loved one or troubled relationships. These patients may simply need “talk therapy.” Their therapist may help them identify the sources of conflict in their lives, provide guidance toward resolution or introduce the patient to coping mechanisms which will help them through a difficult period or event. Counseling may take place in a group setting or one-on-one with a trained therapist.
In some cases, the care team may recommend certain prescription medications, either temporarily or longer-term. Medications may be prescribed to treat conditions including depression, anxiety, ADD and ADHD, schizophrenia and others. Mercy’s Behavioral Health care team, under the leadership of a psychiatrist, will carefully monitor both the type and the dosage of the prescription to ensure the safest possible use.
