What's a birth plan?
According to the American Pregnancy Association, a birth plan is a simple, clear plan reflecting your wants and needs for the birth of your child. Providing a copy of the plan to everyone directly involved in the birth will help them better understand what you would like to happen.
During childbirth, you want to remain focused on your health and the health of your baby. Your birth plan can make your labor and delivery preferences clear, allowing you to feel confident and a part of the decision-making process, as much as possible.
There are several things to consider when documenting your birth plan, including, but not limited to:
- Your labor support team
- Pain management and pushing preferences
- Water breaking and episiotomy
- Fetal monitoring and post delivery baby care
Mercy's birth plan can help guide discussions with your Mercy health care provider as you face choices throughout your labor and delivery. The birth process is unique to each woman and can be unpredictable. Keep in mind you may need to alter your birth plan if health becomes a concern. You can trust our team to honor your wishes while protecting you and your little miracle.
