The MILD Procedure

If you are living with chronic pain, call us. We offer you pain management expertise, therapies and technologies that can greatly improve your quality of life.

Our pain management care team in Springfield offers a short, outpatient procedure designed to treat lumbar spinal stenosis called MILD (minimally invasive lumbar decompression). MILD is a minimally invasive surgical procedure, requiring no overnight hospital stay. This safe and effective procedure can increase standing time and walking distance, leading to a better quality of life. MILD also has a safety profile similar to epidural steroid injections but with lasting results, and patients typically return to normal activity within 24 hours with no restrictions. MILD is covered nationwide by Medicare.

Multidisciplinary care is considered the best practice for chronic pain management. Our team of health psychologists and nurses is specially trained to help manage health challenges. Our comprehensive approach is designed to reduce suffering, facilitate coping, and improve outcomes. We use up-to-date neuroscience clinical research to apply effective methods that help you regain control of your life.

At Mercy Clinic Pain Management in Springfield, we provide state-of-the-art, safe and science-based treatments that support physical treatments. Research has shown medical problems and functional limitation outcomes are improved using psychological approaches to suffering and pain. Some medical problems are conducive to psychological treatment. Patients report reduced pain as a result of treatment for depression and PTSD.

We begin with an evaluation to determine the best treatment plan. Following this initial analysis, we will recommend a treatment plan customized to meet your needs.

Evaluations:

  • Behavioral medicine evaluation – helps your health care team understand the important factors and coping difficulties that influence suffering and impact quality of life.
  • Pre-surgical psychological evaluation – helps your health care team estimate surgical prognosis based upon scientific information. Psychosocial factors can lead to changes in your body’s healing, immune functions, and pain. Pre-surgical treatment can greatly improve surgical prognosis.

Treatments:

  • Alpha-Stimulation
  • Biofeedback
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for pain, mood-related factors and insomnia
