After delivery, your new family will move just down the hall to the quiet postpartum area. Get to know your baby in one of our large, comfortable postpartum recovery rooms. We’ll be there, too, to answer questions and offer tips on newborn care, like how to bathe or swaddle your baby. A certified lactation consultant is available to help you and your baby establish a good foundation for breastfeeding.

For newborns needing extra care, we have a Level II special care nursery on site, staffed 24/7 by pediatric nurse practitioners. They’re supported by Mercy Hospital St. Louis neonatologist pediatricians and NICU nurses. If needed, our specially trained NICU transport team is standing by to take infants by land or helicopter to the Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Mercy Children’s Hospital, where babies receive the highest level of neonatal care in St. Louis County.
