Midwives have helped women bring their new babies into the world for thousands of years. Today, to create an individualized, empowering birth experience, a growing number of moms-to-be are choosing to have a midwife assist them with labor and birth. At Mercy, our certified nurse-midwives (CNM) provide expert, woman-to-woman care for expectant mothers through labor and birth in a safe, home-like environment as well as in the traditional Labor and Delivery setting. Should you need additional medical care, your midwife will work closely with a Mercy OB/GYN. In the rare event of a complication or emergency during labor or birth, your midwife will accompany you throughout your birth experience.
Mercy’s CNMs are certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB). They are licensed health care practitioners who hold advanced degrees, have passed a rigorous national certification exam and have met requirements established by state health agencies.
For many women, Mercy’s midwives represent the best of both worlds: a midwife with you in a natural, home-like, low-risk setting to a midwife with you in the traditional labor and delivery unit. It is our privilege to share this experience with you.
