If you’re struggling with daily activities following an injury, illness or surgery, your doctor may recommend outpatient therapy. Mercy therapists work with you to restore function and relieve pain.
Physical therapy builds muscle strength, enhances range of motion, and improves mobility, balance and coordination.
Occupational therapy develops skills for independent living, such as preparing meals, doing laundry, driving or completing work-related tasks.
Speech therapy helps patients who have difficulty communicating due to speech, language, memory or cognition problems. It may also help patients who have difficulty eating or swallowing.
Fall Prevention/Balance Training
The fall prevention program focuses on reducing the risk of falling in the ambulatory geriatric population. The program involves an in depth fall risk assessment using the Mini-BESTest prior to and following participation in the exercise program. This evidence-based program offers increasingly challenging phases of exercises designed to improve balance, strength, and confidence.
Program participants should be Age 65 and older who are at risk for falls (either by provider assessment or self-assessment tool scoring 4 or higher).
