ARDMORE, Okla. — Mercy is already well known for delivering Ardmore’s babies for generations, so it’s no surprise that the Oklahoma State Department of Health says it’s one of Oklahoma’s best worksites for breastfeeding mothers.

Mercy Hospital Ardmore is among the newest honorees as a Gold Star Worksite for support provided to working parents and breastfeeding babies.
“We want to be the best employer around for every stage of your career, and that includes when a working mother is also trying to balance breastfeeding,” said Tracy Dewbre, Mercy Birthplace — Ardmore’s nurse manager. “Mothers and babies who are able to breastfeed deserve every chance to make it work on their schedules because of how important breastmilk is for early development. It’s just common sense for us to do everything we can to support working mothers on our team.”
The state Health Department partners with the Oklahoma Breastfeeding Resource Center and the Coalition of Oklahoma Breastfeeding Advocates to judge employers on how well they support breastfeeding mothers at work. Each Gold Star Worksite meets all minimum criteria and at least three more.
Mercy Hospital Ada is also a Gold Star Worksite.
Mercy offers full-time co-workers a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid parental leave and $1,500 for employees who enroll in a dependent care flexible spending account. Financial assistance for adoption expenses is also available for full- and part-time Mercy co-workers.
